Wellington OPP Weekly Blast

(COUNTY OF WELLINGTON, ON) – Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to consolidate and streamline our notable driving offences and publish a single weekly release.

On April 15, 2022, at approximately 2:00 p.m. a Wellington County OPP officer initiated a traffic stop on a commercial motor vehicle on St David Street, Fergus. As a result of the investigation, the driver, a 29-year-old from Rockwood has been charged with Driving a Commercial Motor Vehicle Improper Licence. As a result of further investigation, a Guelph business has been charged with Permit Person with Improper Licence to Drive a Commercial Motor Vehicle and Over Weight Vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

On April 16, 2022, Wellington County OPP were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) check on the Hanlon Expressway South, Guelph. At approximately 2:45 a.m. a blue sedan entered the check. As a result of the investigation, the driver, a 17-year-old from Guelph, has been charged with Impaired Operation – 80 Plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood) contrary to the Criminal Code.

On April 16, 2022, Wellington County OPP were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) check on Wellington Road 52, Erin. At approximately 11:00 p.m. a silver coupe entered the check. As a result of the investigation, Ryan James MILLER, 22-years-old of East Garafraxa, has been charged with Impaired Operation contrary to the Criminal Code.

On April 17, 2022, at approximately 3:30 a.m. a Wellington County OPP officer initiated a traffic stop of a blue sedan on the Hanlon Expressway South, Guelph. As a result of the investigation, Delphine Rabiel URAZIRIKANYE, 24-years-old of Waterloo, has been charged with Refusal to Comply with Demand contrary to the Criminal Code

On April 17, 2022, at approximately 10:15 a.m. a Wellington County OPP officer initiated a traffic stop of a white pickup truck on Albert Street, Fergus. As a result of the investigation, James William FETTERLY, 61-years-old of Guelph, has been charged with Disqualified Driving contrary to the Criminal Code.

On April 17, 2022, at approximately 11:00 a.m. a Wellington County OPP officer initiated a traffic stop of a commercial motor vehicle on Woodlawn Road West, Guelph. As a result of the investigation, the driver, a 39-year-old from Guelph has been charged with Driving a Commercial Motor Vehicle no Currently Valid Permit and Failing to Surrender a Complete Daily Inspection Report. As a result of further investigation, a Guelph business has been charged with Permit Person with Improper Licence to Drive a Commercial Motor Vehicle, Operate Commercial Motor Vehicle – No Valid CVOR and Permit Operation of Vehicle – Fail to Display Inspection Sticker or Proof contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

On April 18, 2022, Wellington County OPP were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) check on the Erin-Garafraxa Townline, Erin. At approximately 12:15 a.m. a silver sedan entered the check. As a result of the investigation, Sarah Elizabeth DAYKIN, 27-years-old of Mono, has been charged with Impaired Operation – 80 Plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood) contrary to the Criminal Code.

On April 18, 2022, Wellington County OPP responded to a single vehicle collision on Belsyde Avenue East, Fergus. It was reported that a purple hatchback had struck an out-building in a park area causing extensive damages to both the vehicle and the building. As a result of the investigation, Ryan Alexander HALLIDAY, 22-years-old of Fergus, has been charged with Dangerous Driving contrary to the Criminal Code.*See Attached photo

On April 19, 2022, at approximately 1:00 a.m. a member of the Wellington County OPP initiated a traffic stop of a grey sedan on Wellington Road 109, south of Harriston. As a result of the investigation, Carol-Ann BARNES, 49-years-old of Teeswater, has been charged with Impaired Operation – 80 Plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood) contrary to the Criminal Code.

On April 19, 2022, at approximately 4:00 a.m. a Wellington County OPP officer initiated a traffic stop of a commercial motor vehicle on Wellington Road 109, Wellington North. As a result of the investigation, the driver, a 17-year-old from Amaranth, has been charged with Red Light – Fail to Stop, No Red Light on Rear of Trailer, Fail to Display Inspection Sticker, Fail to Surrender Permit, Fail to Surrender Insurance Card, Fail to Surrender CVOR Certificate, and Fail to Surrender Completed Daily Inspection Report contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court- Guelph.

On April 19, 2022, Wellington County OPP concluded an Easter Weekend – Safe Driving Campaign targeting seatbelt usage. Failure to use seatbelts continue to be a major contributing factor in many vehicle collision fatalities. OPP members were committed to enforcing the rules around seatbelt usage in an effort to target risky behaviour that put lives unnecessarily at risk. Wellington County OPP issued 43 offence notices for seatbelt violations throughout Wellington County.  

Anyone charged with Impaired Operation – 80 Plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood) or Failing to Comply with Demand receives a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment as per statute.

Anyone charged with Racing a Motor Vehicle receives a 14 day impoundment and a 30 day driver’s licence suspension as per statute.
