Officers Assaulted By Drunk Driver

(HURON EAST, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a resident of London with several criminal offences after an incident that took place early this morning.

On Thursday, January 19, 2023, at approximately 12:20 a.m., Huron County OPP was conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) check at the intersection of Blyth Road and Brussels Line in the Municipality of Huron East (Walton).

Officers spoke to a driver of an SUV that entered the R.I.D.E. check. The driver proceeded to kick two officers and the police cruiser while wearing steel toed boots. The driver was eventually placed into the rear of the cruiser and transported to the Huron OPP detachment in Clinton for further breath tests and processing. The two officers that were assaulted received minor injuries.
