On July 26, 2021 at about 1:30 p.m. Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a call about a possible impaired driver that was last seen travelling on Zurich-Hensall Road. Officers began patrolling the area for the suspect vehicle and approximately 45 minutes later police located the suspect vehicle parked on Campbell Avenue in St. Joseph. Officers approached the vehicle and noticed the driver was sleeping inside.

Officers were able to wake the driver and upon speaking with him the investigating officer made some observations that the driver was impaired by alcohol. As a result the driver was placed under arrest and was taken into custody.

The driver was then transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for further testing. Two samples of breath were later provided to the Intoxilizer Technician and both tests were found to be above the legal limit.

Michael PETRENKO, 67 years of age, from London has been charged with Operation While Impaired and Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) 80 Plus. The accused was released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for August 16, 2021 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

An automatic 90-day driver’s licence suspension has been served on the driver and his vehicle was impounded.
