Impaired Driver Hits Vehicle On Fire Near Gorrie

(HOWICK, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Harriston resident with Impaired Operation & Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) 80 Plus following a crash this weekend east of Gorrie.

On Saturday, November 6, 2021 at approximately 9:13 p.m. Huron OPP officers responded to Harriston Road near Mud Lake Line to investigate a report of a vehicle on fire. On the way officers learned a second vehicle had just come across the scene and collided with the rear end of the vehicle that was on fire.

Upon speaking with the driver that struck the parked vehicle the investigating officer noted the driver had consumed some alcohol and was displaying signs of impairment. As a result the driver was placed under arrest for Impaired Operation and was transported to the Teviotdale OPP Detachment for breath tests. Two samples of breath were provided to the qualified Intoxilizer Technician and both samples were found to be above the legal limit. 

Shane IRVINE, 31 years of age, from Harriston has been charged with Impaired Operation, Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration 80 Plus, Have Care and Control of a Motor Vehicle with Open Alcohol and Novice Driver – BAC Above Zero. 

The accused has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for December 13, 2021 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.
