Citizen Arrested After Forcing Way Into Emergency Room

(GODERICH, ON) – A Huron County man remains in custody on over two dozen  charges following an incident that took place at the hospital in Goderich earlier this week. 

On Monday, August 22, 2022 at approximately 6:25 p.m. Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to the hospital in Goderich after learning a suspect assaulted a security officer and screener and forced his way into the emergency department. The suspect then threatened harm to several staff members while carrying a weapon. 

The suspect vacated the premises prior to police arrival however police were able to identify the suspect and he was located shortly thereafter at his residence. Upon arrest the accused resisted and assaulted one of the arresting officers causing a minor injury to the officer.

David HELSDON, 63 years of age from Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh has been charged with:

  • Resist Peace Officer
  • Criminal Harassment – 2 counts
  • Uttering Threats – 7 counts
  • Assault – 2 counts
  • Assault with a Weapon – 5 counts
  • Assault a Peace Officer
  • Assault a Peace Officer with a Weapon
  • Break & Enter Commit Indicatable Offence
  • Mischief Under $5,000
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose – 4 counts
  • Carrying a Concealed Weapon – 2 counts

The accused remains in custody with a court appearance scheduled for August 25, 2022 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.
