24 Year Old From Mount Forest Arrested

(ASHFIELD COLBORNE WAWANOSH, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Mount Forest resident with refusing to comply with demand following an incident on December 17th at approximately 10:50 a.m. on Nile Road near Lanesville Line.

Huron County OPP received information from the public that a vehicle was stuck in a ditch on Nile Road. The investigating officer attended the location and observed the vehicle, which had just been towed out by a tow truck. The driver had started to drive away from the scene even though the vehicle had sustained heavy damage to the rear left tire. The officer conducted a traffic stop and spoke to the driver who was identified and found to be a suspended driver. Further investigation revealed that the driver had been consuming alcohol, which led to the investigating officer attempting to conduct a roadside screening device test on the driver. The driver refused to provide a breath sample and was subsequently placed under arrest and taken into custody.

The accused was then transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for processing.

Darren VANOMMEN, 24 years of age from Mount Forest has been charged with Failure or Refusal to Comply with Demand. The accused was additionally charged with offences under the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act (CAIA), and Highway Traffic Act (HTA).

The involved vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days, and the accused’ driver’s license was suspended for a period of 90 days.

The accused has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for February 27th, 2023, at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.
