Fatal Collision – 19 Year Old Hits Hydro Pole

(SOUTH-WEST OXFORD TOWNSHIP, ON.) – Members of the Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a single motor vehicle collision located on Cranberry Line at Keswick Road on June 4, 2015.

The collision occurred at approximately 11:07 p.m. The vehicle left the roadway and struck a hydro pole.

The male passenger was ejected from the vehicle. The male driver was pronounced deceased at the scene. The male passenger was transported by Oxford Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to a local hospital with minor injuries.

The deceased has been identified as 19 year old Joseph Roberts of London.

The OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators (TTCI) attended the scene to continue with the investigation.

Brownsville Fire Department and Ontario Hydro attended to assist with the scene.

Road Closure: Cranberry Line between Ostrander Road and North Street.

The roads will remain closed for several hours to complete the hydro repair.

Terry MANCHESTER – Drive While Suspended, Drugs

(MOOSONEE, ON) – In the early hours on June 5, 2015 members of the Moosonee Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducted patrols in the area of Ferguson Road when they conducted a traffic stop for a suspected suspended driver.

Shortly after 1:20 am officers conducted a traffic stop which revealed the driver was suspended from driving. The accused was arrested and searched incident to arrest. As a result of this search a quantity of cocaine and fentanyl was discovered.

Terry MANCHESTER (33), of Moosonee, has been charged with the following offences:

– Driving while under suspension contrary to Section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act

– Possession of a Schedule I Substance contrary to Section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

– Possession of a Schedule II Substance contrary to Section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

The accused was released on a promise to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Moosonee on August 4, 2015.

Fatal Collision Update: Deceased Identified

(North Dundas) – On June 4, 2015 at approximately 1:34pm, Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry (SD&G) Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to a report of a two vehicle collision on Boyne Road, North Dundas Township.

A Ford passenger vehicle, driven by Carmel Donn SMIRL (83) of North Stormont Township was westbound when, for reasons under investigation, the vehicle collided head-on with an eastbound dump truck, driven by a 61-year-old male from South Dundas. SMIRL was taken to hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The driver of the truck sustained minor injuries; he was taken to hospital also.

SDG OPP officers assisted by OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators (TTCI) continue the investigation.

Fatal Collision In Mono

(MONO, ON) – On June 4,2015 at 1450 hrs Dufferin OPP were dispatched to serious personal injury collision on Hockley Road between Airport road and 5th Line EHS in Town of Mono.

Preliminary Investigation reveals that a motorcycle left roadway and struck a hydro pole. The driver of motor VEHICLE was pronounced dead at the scene. OPP Technical Traffic Collision investigators are on the scene.

Investigation is continuing and no names will be released as next of kin has not been notified.

Daniel WILLAR – Drunk Driving

(ESSEX, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Essex conducted a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) check on June 4, 2015 at approximately 4:00 p.m. on Essex County Road 50 at Essex County Road 41 in Essex.

A Ford van with a male driver went through the check. The male exhibited signs of impairment and a can of beer was observed in the center console.

The male was arrested at the scene.

Daniel WILLAR, age 44 of Essex, was charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Exceed 80 Milligrams Blood Alcohol Content. He will appear in a Windsor court on June 18, 2015 to answer to the charge.

Eric SPARKES – 172 in a 100

(Cavan-Monaghan Township, ON) – Members of the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) clocked a vehicle at 172km/h in the 100km/h zone on Highway 115 Thursday morning just after 9:30am.

Eric SPARKES (age 37) of Bowmanville, ON was charged with stunt driving in relation to excessive speed. His driver’s licence was suspended for seven days and his 2014 Hyundai Elantra was impounded. The accused is scheduled to appear in Peterborough Provincial Court on August 20, 2015.

Entire Residence Ransacked

(Municipality of Trent Lakes, ON) – Members of the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated a break in to a home on Sugarbush Crescent on Thursday evening just before 6:00pm.

The homeowners were away for the day and returned home to discover the break-in. Suspect(s) forced a bedroom door open and ransacked the entire residence, taking jewelry.

Boat Motor And Fishing Gear Stolen

(GOULAIS TOWNSHIP, ON) – Sault Ste. Marie Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating the theft of boating and fishing equipment that occurred overnight on June 3, 2015 from a camp on North Island.

A 9.9 Johnson outboard motor, a Minn kota 45 lb thrust electric trolling motor and an assortment of fishing gear was taken.

Owen Sound Man Arrested For Sexually Assaulting 12 Year Old Child

On May 18th, 2015, the Owen Sound Police Service received a complaint of historical sexual offences that occurred on a child during late 2013 and early 2014. The Criminal Investigation Branch undertook the investigation which revealed that while the 12 year old was staying at an Owen Sound residence, she was sexually assaulted by her step father. The girl later made the disclosure to another family member who contacted police.

On June 4th, Detectives arrested the step father at the Owen Sound residence. The 41 year old man has been charged with:

Sexual Assault on a person under 16 years (2 counts)

Sexual Interference (2 counts)

Invitation to Sexual Touching

Indecent Exposure to a person under 16 years

The man was held for bail court on June 5th and has been subsequently held in custody for a court appearance on June 8th. No names will be released in regard to this occurrence to protect the identity of the victim.

Incident: On June 2, 2015 a Brantford man attended the front desk at the Brantford Police Service and turned in a stolen cellular telephone. The man advised that he recently attended an address in Hamilton to purchase a used IPhone 5C cellular telephone after answering an online advertisement. The man reports that when he returned home and went to activate the cellular phone, he was notified by the phone that it was stolen and he was to turn the phone into police. The man did so and turned in the telephone to the BPS.

The investigation continues, it is unknown at this time if the person who sold the stolen phone was even aware that the property being sold was stolen.

Most times that a wireless device is reported to the service provider as lost or stolen, the IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity – a 15-17 digit code that identifies a mobile phone) is shared in a National data bank.

Incident: Sometime overnight on June 2, 2015 a vehicle was entered while parked in a lot on Grey Street. A wallet was reported stolen from the vehicle.

Location: Roman Crescent

Incident: Sometime during the day on June 3, 2015 a window was smashed next to the front door of a home. It is not believed that entry was made and no items were reported stolen at the time of this report
