Stolen Firearms Recovered – Tyson CHERNUCK Arrested

(PICTON, ON) – On the 26th of November 2016 a break and enter occurred at a home located on Big Island in Prince Edward County. Four firearms, all long guns, were stolen at the time.

Subsequent investigation between Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Prince Edward detachment, Napanee OPP Crime Unit and Tyendinaga Police Service resulted in a search warrant being executed Thursday the 8th of December at two residences on the Tyendinaga Territory.

Richard Robin CAIRD age 47yrs of Prince Edward County has been arrested and charged with the following offences:

Two counts of Break and Enter

Break and Enter and Steal Firearms

Possession Property Obtained by Crime

Possession for the Purpose of Weapons Trafficking

Trafficking in Firearms

CAIRD appeared in bail court at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on the 19th of December and was held in custody until his next court appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice, Picton on the 21st of December.

A second male party, Tyson CHERNUCK age 42yrs of Tyendinaga Territory has also been arrested and charged with the following offences:

Possession of Property Obtained by Crime and

Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm

CHERNUCK was released from custody following his arrest and will attend the Ontario Court of Justice, Picton to answer to his charge on the 25th of January 2017.

Three of the four stolen firearms have been recovered.

The investigation is ongoing, with further charges pending.
