Chatham-Kent Daily News Release – 13Jan2017

The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 116 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Six people were arrested. Three of them were arrested on outstanding warrants.

Police Execute Search Warrant CK17001421

Last night, members of the Intelligence Unit and Critical Incident Response Team executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act warrant at a residence in Chatham.

Cocaine, methamphetamine, marihuana, hydromorphone with an approximate street value of $13,000 was seized. Also located were digital scales, debt lists, packaging material, other drug paraphernalia and cash.

Edward (Ted) Vandusen, 47 years, of Gray Street in Chatham was arrested and charged with four counts of possession for the purposes of trafficking. He was released pending a future court date of February 9, 2017.

Man Charged with Break and Enter CK17001391

Yesterday morning, shortly after 6:00 a.m. the man forced his way into the Oaks Inn Retirement Village on McNaughton Avenue in Wallaceburg. A staff member observed the man trying to hide behind a doorway while in possession of a dish washer and computer valued at approximately $2000. Staff escorted the man off the property and maintained possession of their items.

Around 1:00 p.m. police responded to the area of Canadian Tire in Wallaceburg in regards to a man trying to steal a forklift with a brand new snow blower loaded up in it. The man fled on foot but was apprehended in the area of the Oaks Inn. At this time, staff from the Oaks Inn approached police and reported the earlier incident.

The 36-year-old man of no fixed address has been charged with break and enter, theft over $5000 and possession of property obtained by a crime over $5000. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man Charged with Failing to Comply CK17001366

In November 2016 the man was released from custody with several conditions. One of those conditions stated that he was to report to the Chatham-Kent Police Service weekly between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. to sign in.

Yesterday morning, the man attended police headquarters to sign in when officers learned that he hadn’t signed in since December 29, 2016.

The 25-year-old Thamesville man was arrested and charged with failing to comply. He was transported to the court house pending a bail hearing.

Theft of Bicycles in Chatham CK17001345

Sometime late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning, unknown suspect(s) entered a garage on Victoria Avenue and stole four (4) bicycles valued at approximately $2000.
