(CENTRAL ELGIN, ON) – On the 24th of June around 5:00a.m. the Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a single vehicle collision on Yarmouth Center Road north of Talbot Line.
A 1999 Green Mercury Grand Marquis went off the roadway and rolled numerous times. Two passengers in the vehicle were ejected and a third was trapped.
Central Elgin Fire attended and extricated the trapped person. St. Thomas Elgin Paramedics stabilized and transported all three involved parties to a hospital. The ejected parties sustained extensive non-life threatening, but life altering injuries.
As a result of the investigation thus far Max MCVETY age 21 of Central Elgin has been charged with:
Driving while ability impaired by alcohol contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code
Driving with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in blood contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code
Driving while ability impaired by alcohol cause bodily harm contrary to section 255(2) of the Criminal Code X2
Driving with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in blood cause bodily harm contrary to section 255(2.1) X2
Young Driver – Blood alcohol Content above zero contrary to section 44.1(5) of the Highway Traffic Act
The roadway was closed for numerous hours to allow the OPP’s technical collision investigators to examine the scene of the collision. The roadway has since been re-opened.
The accused was held for bail at St. Thomas Criminal Court on the 24th of June once he cleared hospital.
Elgin County OPP is urging the public to remember that the big four factors of death on our roadways is: Not wearing your seat belt, aggressive driving, distracted driving, and being impaired by either drugs or alcohol.
