Impaired Driver Arrested Following Collision With Hydro Pole – Name Released

(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – A 49-year-old from Hanover is facing a charge of Impaired Driving following a crash that took place in Clinton on January 21, 2018.

At approximately 12:04 a.m. Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers received information from a witness that reported a male driver had just driven his Honda sedan into a hydro pole on King Street. Further, police learned the vehicle was heavily damaged however the driver escaped injury from the crash. The witness also reported to police the driver appeared to be intoxicated.

Upon police arrival the investigating officer located the male driver seated in the damaged vehicle. Upon speaking with the male driver, police also noted he had been consuming some alcohol and he was displaying several signs that his ability to drive was impaired.

As a result, the driver was placed under arrest for Impaired Driving and was transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for breath tests. He subsequently provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician and both of his samples registered over the legal limit.

Gordon MACINNIS, 49 years of age from Hanover has been charged with Impaired Driving and Drive Motor Vehicle with Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol.

He has since been released from custody with a court appearance set for February 12, 2018 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich. He was also served with a 90 day driver’s licence suspension and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.
