ENFORCEMENT IDENTIFIES HIGH SPEED – ONGOING ISSUE

(LONDON, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) continue to address the “Bigattributing factors related to personal injury and fatal collisions; speeding, distracted driving, impaired driving and failure to wear seat belts.

Over the past four months, the OPP Aircraft Enforcement Program has been patrolling in Oxford, Chatham-Kent, Brant and Essex counties. During that time a total of 786 charges have been issued by the Highway Safety Division of the OPP. In West region the highest speed attained was 170 km/h in a 100 km/h zone. 15 charges pertained to driving in excess of 150 km/h. 732 charges were directly related to speeding, 1 charge for driving with no insurance, 2 related to commercial motor vehicles, 35 charges were other Highway Traffic Act charges and 1 charge was laid under the Criminal Code of Canada.

The OPP continue to press upon the motoring public to take ownership for their own driving behavior and obey all the rules of the road. With the onset of colder weather, the OPP is appealing to all motorists to obey all the rules of the road and make sure their vehicles are fit for winter driving.
