In early September the Barrie Police Service Property Crimes Unit commenced an investigation with respect to numerous day time break and enters into residential houses throughout the city with a majority in the north end of the city.
The suspects gained entry to homes by forcing open the front door and were stealing electronic devices and jewelry while the home owners were away.
As a result of the investigative work and surveillance, two suspects were identified and arrested on the 6th of November 2013. A criminal code search warrant was subsequently executed at the home of the accused in the north end of Barrie. Police recovered several thousand dollars in jewelry.
Police have charged a 30 year old Barrie man with fifteen counts of Break and Enter, Theft of Motor Vehicle, two counts of Breach of Probation, and one count of Breach of Recognizance.
A 24 year old Barrie woman was also charged jointly with five counts of Break and Enter and four counts of Possession of Stolen Property Under $5000.00.
Both will be appearing bail court this morning.
The Property Crime Unit will continue to investigate and identify owners of the recovered property.
