(HUNTSVILLE, ON) With recent media on the typhoon heading to the Philippines requests will be made through reputable groups to raise money in helping that country after a devastating event. On Friday November 8, 2013 Huntsville Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was advised of a Filipino woman canvassing in the area to raise money for the Children’s Joy Foundation.
Huntsville OPP was not able to locate the canvasser to legitimize the group. Investigation found that there have been many complaints throughout Ontario about the pushy solicitors for this particular group. The female is described as a small Filipino female wearing a beige or light coloured coat. She did have what appeared to be an ID badge and a laminated brochure, and it is unknown what mode of transportation they are using.
Huntsville OPP are advising the public to be sure of the charity that you are donating to, if you feel that the person is suspicious to contact their local police service and always request a receipt.
