Truck VS Bicyclist Crash

(WALKERTON, ON) – On November 12th, 2010 at 7:38 pm, the South Bruce OPP received a report of a pickup truck vs. bicycle crash near the intersection of Durham Street East and Peter Street North in the town of Walkerton. The bicycle rider left the sidewalk and entered the roadway in the path of the White GMC pickup truck. The male youth was taken to the South Bruce Grey Health Centre in Walkerton where he was treated for minor injuries and released.

The South Bruce OPP is asking parents and care givers to review bicycle safety with their children:

o A bicycle is a vehicle; the rider must obey the rules of the road.
o A sound signalling device (bell or horn) is required by law.
o A properly fit helmet is required for less than 18 years, recommended for older.
o Always be aware of motor vehicles; proceed only when safe to do so.

“Bicycling is a fun sport and good exercise, but please ride safely.”
