(PORT HOPE, ON) – At approximately 7:50 pm on Tuesday November 19, 2013 Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended to a dangerous condition on Highway 401 at County Road 10 off ramp in the Municipality of Port Hope where a transport truck was leaking diesel fuel.
OPP assisted Port Hope Fire Department (PHFD) and the Ministry of Transportation in (MTO) members containing diesel fuel that was running out on to the shoulder from an external tank on the transport truck that had been punctured by debris on the 401. The driver exited the 401 at the off ramp of County Road 10 and called for assistance.
The Ministry of Environment’s (MOE) Spills Action Center was contacted and attended to assess the situation. PHFD crew contained the leak and the tanker was removed from the scene. A local spill cleanup company attended and transferred the remaining fuel and cleaned up the road.
There were no injuries or further traffic hazards reported. The ramp was re-opened at 10:17 pm.
