HIGHWAY 401 COLLISION/DIESEL SPILL – CONSTRUCTION ZONE

(SOUTH FRONTENAC, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police investigated a motor vehicle collision on Highway 401 near Westbrook Road in the City of Kingston. The collision occurred in the West-bound lanes at approximately 3:00 pm on the 19th of November.

The collision involved a tractor trailer and a large construction vehicle (crash truck) which had been collecting traffic cones from the construction zone at that location.

Though no one was injured in the collision, it resulted in 75 litres of diesel fuel leaking onto the highway which caused significant traffic delays.

Officials from the Ministry of the Environment and the Ministry of Transportation also attended to assist with the investigation.

The driver of the Construction Crash vehicle has been charged with ‘Change Lane Not in Safety’ contrary to Sec 142(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.

All motorists are reminded to take extra care when driving near construction zones.
