(Madoc, ON) – Over the last few days Central Hastings O.P.P has received three suspicious person complaints from residents near Moira Lake in the Municipality of Centre Hastings.
On November 20, 2013 just after 11pm officers responded to a residence on Reynolds Lane after the homeowner reported an unknown vehicle came down the driveway, stayed for a few minutes and footsteps were heard on the back deck. The vehicle then drove over to a neighbour’s driveway. A white pickup truck was reportedly observed in seen in the area a few minutes before.
On November 21, 2013 between 11:00am and 12:30pm a homeowner on Boat Launch Road observed a male approach their back door claiming he was there to test their water. When the residents did not let him inside their home he promptly left. The male is described as being approximately 20 years old, dark hair and goatee. He was driving an older model dark Hyundai.
On November 21, 2013 at 9pm Central Hastings O.P.P was contacted by a homeowner on North Shore Lane after someone was heard on the stairs outside the residence and a noise indicating they were attempting to open a basement door. The complainant observed a person leaving the area, heading east from the deck of the backyard. Although police arrived on scene within minutes and conducted an extensive search of the area they were unable to locate the suspect.

Central Hastings O.P.P would like to remind residents to:
– check that windows and doors are secure before retiring for the night
– ensure garage doors are closed and locked
– maintain normal lighting throughout your house when you’re not at home
– draw all shades at night – all window and screen locks should be adequate
– trim bushes to prevent concealment
– secure the basement door with a lock – use a deadbolt or hardened steel hasp and heavy padlock with hardened steel shackle
– do not place a spare key under a mat, in a flower pot or above a door
– if you are in the back yard, ensure that the front door is locked and vice versa
– if you have an alarm, use it
