(TRENT HILLS, ON) – On Saturday November 23, 2013 Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were contacted regarding a possible drowning on the Trent River in the Municipality of Trent Hills.
At about 1:33 pm Northumberland OPP received a report that a male was in distress in the waters of the Trent River, just off Birch Point Road in Campbellford. It appeared that his boat had overturned and he was struggling to keep his head above water. A pair of local residents was in a rowboat trying to reach the struggling male.
OPP and Trent Hills Fire Department (THFD) attended the scene and found the male approximately 500 metres from shore. THFD launched their rescue boat and removed the male from the water. It is believed he may have been in the water for at least 15 minutes prior to emergency personnel arriving. The male was transported to a local hospital and treated for hypothermia.
