Prank Results In Police Investigation

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment would like to remind everyone that a harmless prank can have serious effects on the intended individual after police responded to a William Street, Delhi, Norfolk County, Ontario address.

On Saturday, November 23, 2013 at approximately 12:41 a.m., police received a call from a concerned resident after observing information that was posted on a website. The information contained in this advertisement indicated where this person worked, what they looked like and what type of motor vehicle that they operated. The ad also contained information that indicated that the person was being watched while working.

The person of this intended prank did not find this amusing and contacted police out of fear for their safety. Police entered into an investigation which included investigators from the Norfolk County OPP Crime Unit.

“Through the course of investigation it was determined that a friend had posted the ad on the website and simply “found amusement to some degree with it.” Police would like to remind everyone that pranks can have serious effects on the intended target, it can also have criminal consequences for the person deciding to commit this prank,” comments Constable Ed Sanchuk, Norfolk County OPP.
