Barrie Police Traffic Unit are currently involved in a project for the month of November called ‘Licence Lookout’, which specifically targets suspended and disqualified drivers in the city of Barrie.
On Friday, November 29th, at about 8:40am, officers from the Barrie Police Traffic Unit were in the area of Coxmill Road performing suspended driver enforcement.
Investigating officers observed a vehicle in the area possibly being operated by a male known to police to be a prohibited driver. The vehicle reversed out of a driveway and proceeded onto the roadway. The vehicle waited for a few seconds, then drove forward, back into the driveway it had just exited from.
Investigating officer conducted a traffic stop and asked the male driver whom he recognized from previous dealings to produce his drivers license and identification, to which he was unable to produce. Investigating officer was aware that the 44 year old local man was currently a prohibited driver, Canada wide resulting from a previous impaired driving condition.
He was arrested and further charged criminally with failing to comply with the conditions of his Probation Order. He was taken into cusotdy, vehicle was impounded and he was held for his Bail hearing later on this afternoon.
