Single car collision

On December 1, 2013 at 1:54 a.m., the Guelph Police Service, Guelph Fire Department, Guelph-Wellington EMS and Guelph Hydro attended to the area of Victoria Road South for a single car collision. Investigation alleges that a 39-year-old Guelph male was driving a 2002 BMW southbound on Victoria Road South when he lost control of the motor vehicle striking a hydro pole approximately 100 metres north of MacAllister Boulevard. The driver received minor injuries; however the vehicle and hydro pole were heavily damaged. The impact caused live hydro wires to land on top of the vehicle and on the roadway. Victoria Road between Stone Road and MacAllister Boulevard remained closed for several hours throughout the night and early morning as Guelph Hydro worked to make the area safe.

The driver was subsequently charged with careless driving and will appear in a Guelph Court in February 2014.
