(IROQUOIS FALLS) – An officer with the Iroquois Falls Ontario Provincial Police has arrested and charged a local driver for driving while being over the legal limit during the early morning hours of December 1st, on Ambridge Drive in Iroquois Falls.
While on patrol, an OPP officer had occasion to observe a 2004 Ford Explorer SUV make an awkward turn onto Ambridge Drive and collide with a snow bank and becoming stuck.
The driver was interviewed and, based on observations made by the OPP officer, was required to complete an on-site breath test procedure.
Based on the outcome of that breath test, the driver was arrested and taken to the Iroquois Falls OPP detachment to complete Intoxilyzer breath testing procedures.
Additionally, an open bottle of liquor and a quantity of suspected marijuana was located within the vehicle.
Administrative checks verified that the driver was currently under suspension in the province of Ontario based on two separate suspensions.
As a result of the investigative steps taken by the OPP, Jonathan THERIAULT, 27, of
Iroquois Falls, has been charged with:
– Operate a Motor Vehicle While Impaired contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.
– Operate Motor Vehicle – over 80 Mgs contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.
– Operate a Motor Vehicle with an Open Container of Liquor contrary to the Liquor Licence Act
– Possession of a Controlled Substance contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act
– 2 counts of Driving While Under Suspension contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
– Drive Motor Vehicle – No Plates contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
– Novice Driver – B.A.C. Over Zero contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
– Drive Motor Vehicle – No Insurance contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act
The accused person has been released from police custody with a first appearance court date of January 14th, 2014 at Provincial Court in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against him.
