(Sault Ste. Marie, ON) – OPP report five motor vehicle collisions on area Highways over the weekend.
Two collisions were reported on Highway 17 North, one on Highway 17 East, one on Highway 556 and Highway 554.
No injuries were reported.
Weather changes, particularly during the winter, can occur suddenly and
dramatically in Ontario. Without warning, sudden storms and plunging
temperatures can drastically change road conditions and reduce visibility.
Driving too fast for the road conditions is the number one cause of winter
collisions. Even on a sunny day, black ice is a constant danger and drivers
should always assume it is present.
The OPP reminds motorists and the public not to call the OPP for road
conditions. You can now call 5-1-1 for interactive up to date road conditions
anywhere in Ontario or call the MTO toll-free at 1-800-268-4686.
