(ELGIN COUNTY, ON) – On December 11, 2013 at approximately 3:14 pm Elgin OPP Officers responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a tractor trailer and car on Belmont Road just south of Mapleton Line, in the Municipality of Central Elgin.
At the time of the collision a 2007 Green Freight Liner Tractor Trailer was southbound on Belmont Road just south of Mapleton Line. A 1997 Ford Mustang was traveling north bound on Belmont Road when the car traveled into the oncoming lane and collided with the tractor trailer. The collision caused the tractor trailer to jack knife and come to rest in the north bound ditch. The Ford Mustang came to a rest on the north bound shoulder facing North West.
Driver of the Ford mustang, an 18 year old Central Elgin man, was transported to hospital as a precaution.
Driver of the tractor trailer, a 57 year old Middlesex Centre man was uninjured in the collision.
Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts.
Both vehicles sustained moderate damage and were removed by towing companies.
Cause of the collision has been attributed to the Ford Mustangs speed being too fast for conditions. No charges have been laid.
Belmont Road was reopened at 5:35pm.
