(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH EAST, ON) On Tuesday December 21, 2010 shortly after 9:15 a.m. members of the Perth County OPP responded to a train / car collision at a private railway crossing west of Road 101.
Police investigation revealed that a sedan operated by a 31 year old Petersburg male travelled north bound on the private driveway when it was struck by a Goderich Exeter Railway engine. The east bound engine was not pulling any other equipment. The male driver of the sedan was extricated from his vehicle by members of the Township of Perth East Fire Department. He was subsequently transported by air ambulance to the Victoria Hospital in London with serious but non life threatening injuries. The driveway is located approximately 1 km. west of Road 101 and leads to a dairy farm on the south side of Hwy. 7/8.
The Perth County OPP and the Goderich Exeter Railway are continuing to investigate the cause of this collision. The train track is expected to re-open around the noon hour.
