OPERATION CRAYOLA CRACKDOWN

(FORT FRANCES, ON) – The Rainy River District Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has launched the first annual Operation Crayola Crackdown in support of the Festive RIDE Campaign.

With the festive season in full swing, the OPP recognizes that people will have opportunities to celebrate with family and friends and at times, alcohol is consumed. In order to deliver the important message of “Don’t Drink and Drive” to drivers, OPP officers have attended elementary schools in our District to partner with students.

Grade 3, 4 and 5 students of North Star School, St. Patrick’s School, Crossroads School, St. Francis School and Donald Young School participated in the first annual Operation Crayola Crackdown! Students have prepared special “Don’t Drink and Drive” messaging and artwork that have been attached to LCBO bags. Officers collected the artwork bags and returned them to the LCBO. On the weekend of December 20, 2013, the LCBO will distribute the bags containing these very special messages designed for patrons at the point of sale.

“This year marks the first year our detachment has participated in Operation Crayola Crackdown. I believe the officers enjoyed the opportunity to work with the children in the classroom on this fun project just as much as the children enjoy helping the police with these important messages for the Festive RIDE campaign”, says Constable Jim Davis of the Atikokan Detachment.

The OPP would like to thank all the students and teachers for their hard work, dedication and commitment to this project. The officers look forward to working with the students again. Have a safe and happy holiday.
