DRINKING AN DRIVING OFFENCES

(COLLINGWOOD AND THE BLUE MOUNTAINS, ONTARIO) Officers from the Colllingwood and The Blue Mountains detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged 5 motorists with drinking and driving offences in the last several days on area roads.

On the 14th of December 2013 at 2:15am, an officer on patrols conducted a vehicle stop on Ontario Street near Peel Street in Collingwood. Upon speaking to the driver it was found that he was under the influence of alcohol and was subjected to a roadside breath test which resulted in a ‘fail’ reading. As such he was arrested and transported to Collingwood detachment for processing. While in police custody, the male was taken to Collingwood General and Marine hospital for medical reasons where he assaulted a member of the hospital staff.

Charged is 58 year-old Ronald BRUMPTON of Collingwood, he is facing charges of failing or refusing to provide sample and assault. He is to appear in Collingwood court on the 21st of January 2014.

On the 15th of December 2013 shortly after 2:30am an officer on patrols conducted a vehicle stop on Jozo Weider Boulevard in The Blue Mountains where interactions with the driver found that he was under the influence of alcohol. A roadside breath test was conducted which resulted in a ‘fail’ reading and as such the driver was arrested and transported to Collingwood detachment for processing. Charged is 26 year-old Shane MARCHANT of Collingwood, he is facing charges of ‘over 80’ and is to appear in Owen Sound court on the 9th of January 2014.

On the 15th of December 2013 shortly after 11:00pm, officers were dispatched to a motor vehicle collision where a vehicle had veered off the roadway and was in a ditch on Highway 26 near Arrowhead Road in The Blue Mountains. Officers determined that the driver was under the influence of alcohol and as such the driver was arrested and transported to Collingwood detachment for processing. Charged is 66 year-old E Ann RICHARDS of The Blue Mountains, she is facing charges of over 80 and impaired driving and is to appear in Owen Sound court on the 28th of January 2014.

On the 16th of December 2013 police received information about a possible impaired driver on Simcoe Street near Hurontario Street in Collingwood. Police located the vehicle on Fourth Street and Maple Street where it was found that the driver was under the influence of alcohol. The driver was arrested and tranported to Collingwood detachment for processing. Charged is 53 year-old Cheryl HAWKINS of Collingwood, she is facing charges of over 80 and impaired driving and is to appear in Collingwood court on the 28th of January 2014.

On the 18th of December 2013 at approximately 8:30pm officers conducting RIDE on Mountain Road in Collingwood came across a male driver who was found to be under the influence of alcohol. A road side breath test was conducted which resulted in a ‘fail’ reading and as such the driver was arrested and transported to Collingwood detachment for processing. Charged is 27 year-old Christopher DESPRES of Innisfil, he is facing a charge of ‘over 80’ and is to appear in Collingwood court on the 7th of January 2014.

The OPP is reminding drivers that there is no safe amount of alcohol consumption when driving and to simply plan ahead. Have a designated driver, take public transit or call for a taxi or sober friend to come pick you up. Don’t take chances with your life or the life of others, don’t drink and drive.
