DRIVER FACES NUMEROUS CHARGES

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON.) – A local male faces numerous driving related offences after his vehicle was stopped by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

On January 4, 2014 an OPP officer was on patrol in the Omemee area near Queen Street and attempted to stop a vehicle. Approximately 1km after the officer had activated the lights and siren the vehicle did stop. During the investigation the officer determined that the driver had been consuming alcohol and as a result a road side breath test was conducted. The driver was subsequently arrested for an alcohol related driving offence. Further investigation revealed that the driver was suspended from driving.

As a result of the investigation John HIE, 36 years of age, of Emily Township was charged with failing to stop for police and driving while under suspension, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act as well as with having care and control of a motor vehicle while having more than 80mgs of alcohol in 100mls of blood contrary to the Criminal Code.
