Sexting Results In Child Porn Charge For 16 Year Old

(KENORA, ON) – Members of the Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were contacted January 12, 2014 regarding the discovery of sexually explicit photographs of a 17-year-old girl on an electronic device. Subsequent investigation involving members of the Kenora OPP Crime Unit has resulted in the arrest of a 16 year old male from Kenora.

Investigation revealed that a 16 year old male had distributed the photograph. The youth has been charged with Distribution of Child Pornography contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He is to appear in Kenora Court on January 28, 2014 to answer to the charge. He cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

“Sexting” refers to the sending of sexually related text or images from one mobile device to another.

The creation and sending of nude photographs of anyone under the age of 18 is considered child pornography and is illegal under the Criminal Code of Canada.
