Update: Ottawa Police lay charges in multiple investigations

(Ottawa) The Ottawa Police Service Robbery Unit has laid charges in connection to these two investigations, as well as a third.

On November 21, 2013, at approximately 4:00 pm, two occupants of a home, a male and female, situated along the 1300 block of Avenue R were visiting with an acquaintance at the residence when three males entered the residence. One of the suspects was armed with a replica handgun and two with knives. A scuffle ensued during which the home occupants disarmed the suspects. The three suspects, and the person that had been visiting, all fled the residence. Cash and cell phones were taken. Both occupants suffered minor injuries that did not require additional treatment.

On January 14, 2014, one of the suspects turned himself in to Ottawa Police.

Nooredin HASSAN, age 18 of Ottawa, is charged with the following offences in relation to the three occurrences:
Three counts of robbery
One count of wearing a disguise
One count of theft under $5000
Two counts of possession of a weapon dangerous to the public
One count of being unlawfully in a dwelling house

Mr. HASSAN will appear in court on February 4, 2014.

The investigation continues and Police are still seeking to identify the three suspects that attended the Avenue R home. They are described as follows:

#1-Male, possibly of middle-eastern descent, approx 5’6” (168 cm), medium length hair, no facial hair, medium build.
#2-Male, possibly of Somali descent, chubby, 6’0” tall (183 cm)
#3-Male, possibly of Somali descent

Investigators also continue to seek four (4) additional suspects in relation to the December 1, 2013 convenience store robbery. They are described as follows:
