Impaired care and control

Occurrence #: BA14-003887
Date: Saturday, January 25, 2014 – 2:25am
On the 25th of January 2014 at approximately 2:15am, officers while on patrol observed a vehicle swerve on the roadway as it travelled along Dunlop Street. Police observed the vehicle turn on to Bradford Street, continue to swerve and increase it’s speed to beyond the posted limit. Officers were able to catch up to the vehicle and stop it in the area of Essa and Gowan.

As officers investigated the male driver they detected an odour of alchol on his breath and he admitted to consuming alcohol. The 25 year old male driver was arrested for impaired operation and transported to the station where he provided a sample of his breath. It turned out that the male was near double the legal limit.

The male was later released and provided a court date of mid-February. As a result of the arrest the driver will automatically lose his license for 90 days, his car will be impounded for 7 days and when he attends court could face a hefty fine and lose his license for an additional year.

A designated driver would have cost him nothing and ensured that he got home safe and didn’t put other lives at risk.
