CRUISER STRUCK TWICE AT SAME LOCATION

(GREY COUNTY, ON) – Members of the West Region Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are in complete disbelief following another cruiser crash in Grey County late yesterday morning.

OPP had closed Highway 21 from Springmount west to Alvanley in the Township of Georgian Bluffs due to blowing snow and whiteout conditions and had advised motorists not to travel. Around 11:30 a.m., a member of the Grey County OPP was on the shoulder of Hwy. 21 in a fully marked cruiser with emergency lights activated, checking an abandoned vehicle when it was struck from behind by another motor vehicle.

The involved officer was transported by OPP to a local hospital for observation and released a short time later. The driver of the other vehicle (van) was not injured.

Flares had been set up to warn other motorists of the investigation when another driver ploughed into the rear of the disabled, unattended cruiser a second time. The driver and two passengers involved in the second collision were uninjured.

The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending. Police remind all motorists not to drive in whiteout conditions. If driving is required due to urgent situations, police remind all motorists of their responsibility to drive in control at all times. “If you can’t see in front of you why are you driving?” – OPP Sgt. David Rektor.

OPP continue to warn motorists in outlying areas to drive careful as more wind and blowing snow is on tap for today. Check with your local media outlets, Ministry of Transportation or municipal roads department to get the latest updates on any closures and road conditions.
