UPDATE HIGHWAY 6 FROM HEPWORTH TO WIARTON OPENED

(BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) – Effective 3:45 pm on January 29, 2014 Bruce Peninsula Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have opened up highway 6 from Hepworth to Wiarton. All other county roads remain closed at this time on the Bruce Peninsula.

Highway 6 from Wiarton to Tobermory closed

Highway 21 from Alvanley to Southampton is closed

Bruce Road 10 from Hepworth to Alvanley is closed

All county roads are closed.

The closures are in effect due to high winds, blowing snow and poor to no visibility. Motorists are asked to respect the closures and avoid these roads.

The penalty for driving on a closed highway is a $110 fine and 3 demerit points, but the consequences can be far worse if you become involved in a collision, or stranded, in a white out

Bruce Peninsula OPP are monitoring the unstable weather conditions today and reminding motorists to still use extreme caution when travelling roads due to poor visibility, blowing and drifting snow.

Please do not call the local OPP Detachment or the Provincial Communications Centre in London for road/weather conditions. Dispatchers are busy answering “calls for service”. Do not call 9-1-1 unless you have a legitimate emergency.
