Citizen Awareness

On today’s date we have received approximately 3 calls from various windows customers. Customers are indicating that they are being spoken to by a person who says, “Hi I’m calling from Windows XP. Is your windows working properly, is it slow or crashing? ” They ask the customer to log into their computer and then they log in remotely. The representative is telling the customer that they are being targeted for cybercrimes. Then they are asking for money to fix it. They are asking for a credit card or debit card at which time they remotely add a WESTERN UNION screen to your home page. They ask you to fill in all of your banking information.

In all cases the victims that have been asked to provide their information have not done so. They have asked to speak to a manager at which time the representative hangs up.

The victims have contacted Windows directly and have been advised that they do not call their customers and ask for money.
