Yesterday afternoon around 3:40 p.m. the woman entered a store on Queen Street in Chatham. While inside the store, the woman concealed jewelry, cosmetics and stationary supplies in a bag and hood of her coat. The woman exited the store without making any attempt to pay for the items. An employee confronted the woman outside and the woman threatened the employee as she fled the area.
Officers obtained a physical description of the woman and she was located a short time later at the intersection of Tissiman Street and Allan Street. The woman was arrested and found to be in possession of the stolen merchandise valued at approximately $90.
The 23-year-old Chatham woman has been charged with theft under $5000, possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000 and uttering threats. She has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
