(Bancroft, Ontario) – The Bancroft and surrounding area is abundant with snowmobile trails that are maintained by the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC). To ensure the safety of all snowmobilers using the trails, the Bancroft detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have been conducting regular snowmobile patrols and R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) checks on the trails.
During the weekend of Friday the 31st of January 2014 to Sunday the 02nd of February 2014, members from the Bancroft OPP and OPP S.A.V.E. (Snowmobile, ATV and Vessel Enforcement) were patrolling OFSC trails. Officers checked 5 ATV’s and laid 5 ATV related charges.
The Bancroft OPP want to remind the public that ATV’s are not permitted on OFSC trails once the OFSC take ownership of the trails to maintain and groom them for snowmobile use. Any ATV operators found on OFSC trails could be charged for trespassing under the Trespass to Property Act.
