(THUNDER BAY, ON) On Tuesday, February 4 2014 at approximately 7:00 pm, officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of two females that were lost on the cross country ski trails in Kakabeka Falls Provincial Park. The females had got turned around on one of the trails and could not find their way out to the parking lot and they were becoming cold and tired.
Immediately, officers from the OPP North West Region Emergency Response Team (ERT) were activated in order to conduct a search for the females. Officers used snowmobiles to patrol the trails in a quick and effective manner.
The females were located and provided extra clothing to keep them warm as they were transported to the parking lot where they were warmed in the police vehicle.
The females did not require any medical assistance.
PEDESTRIAN STRUCK ON THUNDER BAY EXPRESSWAY
Also on Tuesday evening, officers responded to a 911 call advising of a pedestrian walking on Highway 11/17 between Balsam Street and Red River Road. As officers arrived on the scene, they located a male lying on the west bound shoulder of the highway. The male had been struck by a vehicle which had been travelling below the posted speed limit. The male sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported to hospital by ambulance. There were no charges laid in regards to this incident.
