On the 4th of February 2014, police were alerted to an incident between a 14 year old male and his 14 year old girlfriend. The two parties were involved in a relationship for just over 5 months.
The two parties were at the victim’s residence and ending an evening visit. The victim went to give the accused a hug goodbye at which time the accused grabbed an aersol can and a lighter. The accused began to spray the can and hold the lighter in front of the spray making a home made blow torch. While doing so the accused aimed it at the victim catching her shirt on fire and causing minor burns to her chest area. The victim was treated at RVH for her injuries.
Police subsequently arrested the accused male on the 6th of February 2014 for the alleged offence of assault with a weapon.
The accused party was held pending a bail hearing.
