(MAGNETAWAN, ON) – On Sunday, June 17, 2018, at approximately 9:00 a.m., members of the Almaguin Highlands Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated a motor vehicle collision on Highway 124 involving a cyclist.
The cyclist, identified as June BELL, 70-years-old of Barrie, Ontario, died on Monday, June 18, 2018.
At approximately 9:15 p.m. on Sunday, June 17, 2018, police located the vehicle and driver in Parry Sound, Ontario. OPP arrested Darren MILLER, 54-years-old of Barrie, Ontario. He has been charged with the following upgraded offences:
Dangerous Operation Causing Death, contrary to section 249(4) of the Criminal Code (CC),
Causing Death by Criminal Negligence, contrary to section 220(b) of the CC, and
Fail to Stop at Scene of Accident Causing Death, contrary to section 252(1.3)(a) of the CC.
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Thursday, July 26, 2018 in Sundridge, Ontario.
