FIVE IMPAIRED DRIVERS ARRESTED OVER THE WEEKEND

(ESSEX COUNTY, ON) –The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Essex County was kept very busy this past holiday weekend with alcohol related driving offences.

On Thursday February 13, 2014 at approximately 10:00 a.m., officers received a report of a vehicle in a ditch on Essex County Road 20 near Essex County Road 41 in Harrow. Officers located the driver who exhibited signs of impairment.

Cornelius QUIRING, age 44 of Essex was arrested and later charged with Care or Control while Impaired as well as Fail to Comply with Conditions of Undertaking. He will appear in a Windsor Court at a later date.

On Saturday February 15, 2014, at approximately 3:15 a.m., officers in Lakeshore were conducting speed enforcement when they observed a red pickup truck travelling eastbound on Essex County Road 22 near Wallace Line, faster than the posted speed limit.

The male driver and sole occupant of the vehicle exhibited signs of impairment and was arrested at the scene. Jean Marc REMILLARD, age 40 of Lakeshore was charged with Exceed 80 milligrams of Blood Alcohol Content, Breach of Undertaking and Possession of Schedule II Substance. He will appear in a Windsor court on February 27, 2014.

Later that same day, at approximately 4:40 p.m., officers in Tecumseh were called to attend the McDonald’s restaurant on Manning Road for a report of an impaired driver.

A white minivan was located in the parking lot and the driver of the vehicle exhibited signs of impairment. Scott BONNETT, age 45 of Tecumseh, was arrested at the scene and charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Exceed 80 Milligrams of Blood Alcohol Content. He will appear in a Windsor Court on February 25, 2014.

Again, on February 15, 2014, at 5:40 p.m., officers in Essex received a report of a possible impaired driver in a Buick. Officers subsequently located the vehicle in question and approached the vehicle which then sped off away from the officer.

A short while later, the vehicle was located and the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was arrested. Jerry HLAVAC, age 39 of Essex was charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Refuse Breath Sample and Flight While Pursued by Peace Officer. He will appear in a Windsor court on March 5, 2014.

On February 15, 2014 at approximately 8:00 p.m., officers in Lakeshore received a report of a transport truck that was driving erratically in the eastbound lanes of Highway

401.

Officers located the truck and loaded trailer near Essex County Road 42 in Lakeshore. Officers spoke to the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle who exhibited signs of impairment. Sukhdev SINGH, age 59 of Caledon, was charged with the following offences:

Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle

Exceed 80 Milligrams of Blood Alcohol Content

Driver in Possession of More Than One Daily Log

Inaccurate or False Information in Daily Log

Fail to Enter Required Information in Daily Log at End of Shift

Fail to Surrender Completed Daily Inspection Report

Drive Motor Vehicle with Unsealed Container of Liquor

He will appear in a Windsor court on March 6, 2014.
