(ORILLIA, ON) – Officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Anti-Rackets Branch, Health Fraud Investigation Unit have charged a vendor of medical devices and her spouse with Fraud Over $5,000. The vendor was also charged with Uttering a Forged Document, pursuant to the Criminal Code.
The Ministry of Health and Long Term Care (MOHLTC) Assistive Devices Program (ADP) referred the file to the OPP Health Fraud Investigation Unit when an audit revealed alleged fraudulent billings to the Ministry for medical devices not supplied to ADP clients.
On February 20, 2014, Yan CHEN, a 36 year old female, of Vaughan was charged with one count of Fraud over $5,000 and one count of Uttering a Forged Document.
Her spouse, Shaoxiong ZHENG, a 45 year old male, of Vaughan was charged with one count of Fraud over $5,000.
Both accused will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on March 20, 2014 at Finch Avenue West, Toronto to answer to the charges.
The Anti-Rackets Health Fraud Investigation Unit is comprised of OPP investigators who investigate allegations of fraud relating to the Ontario Health Care System on behalf of the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care.
