OPP INVESTIGATING THEFT

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON.) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is currently investigating the theft of a snowmobile from a residence in the Cavan-Monaghan Township area.

On March 7, 2014 an OPP officer attended a residence on Syer Line in response to the theft of a 1999 Polaris snowmobile, with marker #869065, which was taken from the residence sometime overnight.

This is an on-going concern this year with Central region having close to 40 thefts reported.

The OPP is encouraging owners to secure their sleds when not in use. Removing keys is paramount but storing machines in a locked garage when available will also serve as a deterrent. If sleds have to be stored outside, it is suggested that the machines be chained to a tree or permanent object to help prevent these thefts.

Anyone having information on this crime or any others is asked to contact the City of Kawartha Lakes OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Information can also be reported anonymously by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or by going to www.khcs.ca and submitting an anonymous tip online.
