OPP LAY CHARGES IN LOTTERY FRAUD CASE

(HAMILTON, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Investigations and Enforcement Bureau attached to the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) was called to investigate several reports of fraud in the City of Hamilton. The information receive revealed that these frauds took place at several different retail locations with OLG lottery terminals over a one year period. The offences were in relations to fraudulently obtaining and validating promotional Megadice, Wheel of Fortune and Poker Lotto lottery ticket vouchers. The investigation was referred to the OPP by the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG).

On March 13, 2014, the accused was located by the OPP Investigation and Enforcement Bureau in a downtown Hamilton store attempting to commit a further fraudulent transaction on the OLG lottery terminal.

Michael BOUGHNER, 23 of Hamilton, Ontario was arrested and charged with False Pretence, Forgery and Uttering a Forged Document. He was released on a Promise to Appear and an Officer in Charge Undertaking and will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Hamilton on May 2, 2014.

Effective January 1st, 2008, the OPP Bureau at the AGCO was assigned responsibility to investigate insider wins by persons regulated by the AGCO and suspicious wins for lotteries conducted and managed by the OLG.
