James Edward NORTHOVER – Drunk Driving

(ALDERVILLE, ON) – On Friday March 14, 2014 Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were alerted to a possible impaired driver after a vehicle was observed by a motorist crossing lines and going onto the shoulder. The motorist kept observation on the vehicle until OPP could arrive.

At approximately 3:20 pm on Friday, Northumberland OPP responded to a call of a northbound gold Honda CRV on County Road 45 north of Minnetonka Road in the First Nation Territory of Alderville. A motorist had been following the Honda and found that it was crossing road marking lines and going onto the shoulder. The motorist contacted OPP for assistance when the vehicle pulled into a nearby business.

The responding officer found a male exiting the business that appeared to be exhibiting signs of alcohol consumption and was questioned by the officer. The male failed a roadside screening device and was arrested. He was taken to Cobourg OPP detachment for further breath tests.

James Edward NORTHOVER, 42 from Port Hope, Ontario has been charged with one count each of impaired operation of motor vehicle and blood alcohol over 80 milligrams. He was released on a promise to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on Wednesday April 9, 2014 at 9:30 am in Cobourg, Ontario. The accused was also issued a 90 day drivers licence suspension and seven day vehicle impoundment.

Impaired driving remains the leading cause of criminal death in Canada.
