(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON.) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is currently on the scene of a fatal motor vehicle collision.
At approximately 1:45 this afternoon a head on collision involving two vehicles occurred on Kawartha Lakes Road 8 near Sturgeon Point Road. Initial investigation indicates that a vehicle travelling west bound crossed the centre line and collided head on with an east bound vehicle.
The driver of the west bound vehicle, Alexander STEPHENSON, 21 years of age, was transported from the scene via ambulance to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The driver of the east bound vehicle was transported from the scene via ambulance to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The OPP’s Technical Collision Investigation unit (TCI) is on scene to assist with the investigation. Kawartha Lakes Road 8 is closed between Sturgeon Point Road and Hickory Beach Road and will remain so for a few hours.
