(MUNICIPALITY OF WEST PERTH, ON) On Friday morning March 21, 2014, Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were dispatched to a residence on Pond St. in Mitchell, where the homeowner discovered his garage entered.
Investigation revealed that sometime between 5:30 p.m. on Thursday March 20th and 7 a.m. on Friday March 21st an unknown person entered an unlocked vehicle parked in the driveway of the residence. The vehicle was rummaged through and the remote garage door opener located inside the vehicle was used to open the residence garage door. A vehicle parked inside the garage was subsequently entered and rummaged through, however nothing appears to have been removed from the vehicle or the garage.
On Friday March 21, 2014, Perth County OPP officers were also contacted by a Mitchell resident residing on Toronto St, who advised that their unlocked vehicle parked in the driveway had been entered sometime overnight. A wallet containing cash and ID was stolen from inside.
These two crimes were preventable. All the owners needed to do, was to lock their vehicle doors and pocket the keys.
