(ADELAIDE-METCALFE TWP, ON)- On Friday March 21, 2014 at 9:36 p.m. police observed a speeding motor vehicle travelling southbound on Hickory Drive in the Township of Adelaide-Metcalfe. The vehicle was found to be travelling at 143 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone when stopped by police. Police soon confirmed that the driver had been drinking. The driver was placed under arrest at the scene and transported to the OPP detachment for further tests. As a result of an investigation police have charged John AARTS, age 58 of Strathroy, ON with:
Driving While Ability Impaired as per Section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
Care or Control of a Motor Vehicle -Over 80 mgs. 253(1)(b) CC
Race a motor vehicle as per Section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA)
Driver fail to surrender licence 33(1) HTA
The accused was released from police custody by way of a Promise to Appear (PTA) and is scheduled to appear in a London court room on June 6, 2014 to speak to the charges. The drivers licence was seized and the vehicle was impounded for a period of seven days.
