On March 24, 2014 just before 4pm, emergency services responded to a report of a unit fire at an apartment building located at 300 Regina St N in the city of Waterloo. On arrival Police gained entry to the 16th floor unit and determined the fire to be contained to the balcony. The responding police officer was able to extinguish the fire and prevent injuries or smoke damage to the unit. Waterloo Fire Rescue also attended and used thermal equipment to ensure the fire had been properly extinguished. There were no injuries and residents were evacuated for a short time. The cause of the blaze was determined to be connected to careless smoking.
