FLEEING VEHICLE

(Hawkesbury, ON) On March 29th at 2:30 am, Hawkesbury OPP officers were conducting a RIDE checkpoint on John Street at the bottom of the Long Sault Bridge in Hawkesbury when they observed a 2002 Chevrolet Impala making a U-turn before the checkpoint and heading back toward the province of Québec.

Officers immediately pursued the vehicle which was driving at dangerous speeds in the village of Grenville, QC trying to escape from police.

Constables Pascal Boudreau, Jean-Alexandre Robillard-Cardinal and Jean-Michel Maceus were able to catch up and intercept the fleeing vehicle which stopped on its own at the intersection of routes 128 and 344.

Illicit drugs were found in the vehicle during the search.

The driver, André ST-GERMAIN (23 yrs) of Grenville was arrested. He was charged with the following Criminal Code of Canada offences:

– Section 249.1(1) Flight while Pursued by Peace Officer
– Section 249(1)(a) Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle

He was charged under the Liquor Licence Act with section 32(1) for Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available.

He was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with section 32(1) Drive commercial motor vehicle – no licence.

He was released and is scheduled to appear in court in L’Orignal on April 9th.
